Change the Skirt
Changing the skirt is a quick and easy way to modify your jigs. Keep a variety of colors in your tackle box so you can change them on the water.
Color the Skirt
Try using a permanent marker to change the color of the skirt on your jigs. You can also use scented markers or dyes that are available from various fishing tackle manufacturers.
Trim the Skirt
Always have a pair of scissors with you when fishing jigs. Use them to trim the skirt. This will change the profile of the jig in the water.
Trim the Weed Guard
The weed guard on a jig is great at preventing snags, but it can also get in the way of your hooksets. Trim it down on a forward sloping angle until it is just long enough to still protect the hook when folded back. Anything more is just getting in the way of your hooksets.
